Laighean county council elections held

LAIGHEAN (AAP) - County council elections were held 28 June in Laighean, resulting in a majority win for the PEACE Party. The county, reduced to two villages after a war with Mumhan and ONE, only fielded two lists for the election. The PEACE Party, consisting of candidates from Cill Chainnaigh, had Saamnn Melodos, Springtime, Spyrosm, Keiran, Revenwyn Silverhand, Nuada Silverhand, Fallout, and Axelrod Melodos elected. The Laighean Party listed candidates from the newly-returned town of An tInbhear Mór and seated Warlord1510, Maryanda, Glory123, and Dralon.

The newly elected council now looks towards the significant challenges of strengthening Laighean after the devastation of the Irish Civil War. Some citizens are concerned about the ability of the county to unify, citing the polarity between the two towns. "[One of the] primary challenges I believe we face is regaining control of the county...working so that we don't just have ATM or CC, we have a form of unity and identity," remarked Keiran. Diplomatic relations with the other Irish counties are also a priority. "Sending well known and friendly faces to Munster as diplomats could help revive public relations between our two great counties," observed Warlord. Springtime agreed: "I hope to see diplomacy take hold and reach real peace and prosperity for both Laighean and An Mumhain."

The financial stability of Laighean is on the immediate agenda for the new council. Trade within and between counties is expected to be revived, and the breeding of animals was cited by multiple councilors as a concern. Laighean is still recovering from the looting of the treasury by ONE, as well as the loss of most mines and the closing of the remaining Laighean mine.

The council yesterday recognized Saamnn as Duke of Laighean, replacing Ceruwin McKenzie. Other offices were filled as well, including Springtime as Trade Minister and Warlord as Sheriff.
